What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift (Condensed Rich Buttock Augmentation)?

In this article, we will take an in-depth look at the Brazilian Butt Lift (Condensed Rich Buttock Augmentation).

A Brazilian Butt Lift is a surgical procedure that uses your own fat to enhance the volume and improve the shape of the buttocks. The following provides an intuitive explanation of the dramatic transformation this procedure can achieve.

The areas marked in blue indicate where liposuction (VASER® Liposuction) was performed. Fat was removed from the entire circumference of the abdomen and waist. Achieving such a beautifully defined waistline requires highly skilled liposuction. You can see how dramatically the waist curves inward.

CRF fat prepared from the harvested fat was then injected into the upper buttocks (the upper half of the hips). Let us examine the results one month after surgery from various angles.

From either side, you can see that the buttocks have become rounder and the previously sagging buttocks now have a more lifted, upward-facing shape.

Notice how removing the excess fat from the back and waist has also revealed a beautifully defined S-shaped curve along the spine.

From the rear oblique angle, the buttocks also appear fuller, rounder, and more voluminous.

Approximately 200 cc of fat is injected into each upper buttock. Injecting a larger amount does not significantly change the volume of fat that ultimately survives. Based on the surgeon’s experience, this amount—determined by the degree of fullness felt within the subcutaneous tissue—has produced the best results.

For patients with pronounced indentations in the buttocks, a single procedure may not fully correct them. In such cases, a second CRF fat-injection procedure is often performed.

Take another look at the buttocks above. The vertically elongated buttocks seen before surgery have been transformed into an adorable “heart-shaped hip,” resembling an upside-down heart.

In this case, fat was harvested through liposuction from the abdomen and waist. However, fat can be harvested from any area suitable for liposuction, including the upper arms and thighs. When considering the smooth transition from a defined waist to the hips, I believe the best approach is to “redistribute fat from around the waist to the buttocks.”

Incidentally...

The word “Brazilian” in “Brazilian Butt Lift” does not mean that the procedure was developed in Brazil.

The name derives from an aesthetic concept that became popular in Europe and North America around the 1990s, aiming to create the rounded, full, and lifted buttock contour typically associated with Brazilian women. It is not a medical term.

However, this procedure is also one of the cosmetic surgeries associated with serious complications. In particular, deaths from fat embolism have been reported when fat was injected into the gluteus maximus muscle or beneath the fascia. Therefore, the surgeon’s skill and extensive experience—20 years in cosmetic surgery and 30 years as a physician—are crucial.
